Liquid Silicone Rubber Injection Molding Production Process
1.Material Preparation
LSR consists of two components: Part A (base polymer with a platinum catalyst) and Part B (crosslinking agent). These are stored in separate drums and are metered in a precise 1:1 ratio.
2,Mixing
The two components are combined using a static or dynamic mixer to ensure a homogeneous mixture. This mixture remains at room temperature to prevent premature curing
The mixed LSR is injected into a closed mold cavity using a specialized injection unit. The mold is maintained at elevated temperatures (typically between 150°C and 215°C) to facilitate curing .
4,Curing
Heat initiates a crosslinking reaction, transforming the liquid silicone into a solid elastomer. Curing times are short, often under a minute, depending on part geometry and material properties .
5,Demolding
Once cured, the part is ejected from the mold. Due to LSR’s flexibility, complex geometries can be demolded without damage, often eliminating the need for ejector pins .
6,Post-Processing (if necessary)
Some applications may require post-curing to remove volatile substances, especially for medical or food-grade products. However, advancements in LSR formulations have reduced the necessity for this step
